1. The Court in the 12th century

I consider this period to be a turning-point between the Antiquity and the Middle Ages (“Late Antiquity” according to henri-Irénée Marrou). My research is based on the texts written in Sino Japanese and the Japanese or Chinese poems. I’m interested particularly in noble’s diary to analyze this troubling era with the retired emperors or the Taira.

1. The way of tea

I’ve never stopped practicing the tea ceremony since I was young. I find its relationships to otherstraditionel arts of Japan, the way of incense or the Nô plays, would be object of interesting studies.

• Poet of Japanese poem and Chinese poem in the 12th century: Fujiwara no Yorinaga (1169-1206)
• Music and Courter’s diaries: Taiki by Fujiwara no Yorinaga (1120-1156) and Gyokuyô by Fujiwara no Kanezane (1149-1207)
• Works about the way of tea: Chafu “Notes about the tea”
• Nô plays, the way of the incense and the way of tea; their poetic interaction
