Presentation

My academic path in Japanology began at the University of Florence, where I specialized in Japanese philology within the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures.
For my Master’s thesis, I analyzed a 10th-century poetic collection, the Ise shū (Collected poems of Lady Ise), focusing on its narrative elements. This work laid the foundation for my further studies in classical Japanese literature and led me to pursue a PhD at INALCO in Paris under the supervision of Sumie Terada.
My doctoral dissertation entitled « The Legacy of Ise : from Ise shū to Genji monogatari » examined the contribution of poetry to the development of a new form of Japanese narrative writing, which culminated in The Tale of Genji in the early 11th century.
After completing my PhD, I expanded my research through a postdoctoral fellowship at the French Research Institute on East Asia (IFRAE). My current research explores the intertextual connections within The Tale of Genji, with a particular emphasis on the interplay between prose, poetry, and music. I am especially interested in understanding how these elements work together within the text to function as a
requiem, as well as in exploring the interactions between the elegiac and comic dimensions.
