Presentation

Fables and tales are the main focus of my research, particularly from the perspective of cultural transfers between France and China, and their consequences in Chinese literary history and theory.
My doctoral thesis was about the reception of La Fontaine, Perrault and Madame d’Aulnoy in China. It showed how the literary genres of the fable (yuyan) and the tale (tonghua) have been defined in China over the centuries, but also that they encounter contemporary themes in youth literature and folklore, such as the representation and symbolism of animals.
My postdoctoral research project deepens these themes by returning to the model of the Aesopian fable, whose reception in China, especially at the end of the Qing dynasty and at the beginning of the Republican era, allowed to retrospectively theorise the history of the Chinese fable and its literary and ethical implications.
This project thus contributes to consolidate my research perspectives, which keep investigating intercultural dynamics and the evolution of ethics conveyed in France and China by representations of high symbolical value (such as childhood, femininity, animality).
