Isabelle Ang

Associate Professor, Collège de France

In my research work on the history and the worship activities of the Chinese religion, I combine textual research and fieldwork.

Since 1994, I have been working on the history of the cult of Xu Xun in Jiangxi province, and on its worship activities today.

The other field of research that I have developed since 2014 concerns the dongtian fudi of Jiangxi province; I focus on their territory and their links with local cults.

Research thematics

  • The living cult of Xu Xun 許遜 in Jiangxi province and its history
  • Grotto-Heavens (dongtian 洞天) and Blessed Lands (fudi 福地) of Jiangxi province
  • History of the cult of Lü Dongbin呂洞賓, from its origins to the 14th century
