Thesis : The Use of Classical Chinese in the Translation of French Poetry in China (1912-1949)
Directed by Florence Xiangyun Zhang

Presentation

I am a doctoral researcher specializing in Sino-French literary translation and modern Chinese intellectual history. My research focuses on the use of Classical Chinese in the translation of French poetry in China between 1912 and 1949. Through a comparative and historical approach, I examine how Classical Chinese was mobilized by Chinese translators as a poetic and ideological resource in the context of linguistic modernity. My work aims to shed light on the interactions between translation practices, language choice, and cultural transfer, and to contribute to a better understanding of the role of translation in the formation of modern Chinese literature and its dialogue with French poetry.
