Presentation

My doctoral dissertation, defended in 2025, is centered on Wang Anshi (1021-1086), a scholar-statesman and school reformer of the Song dynasty. My research interest lies particularly in the history of ideas on xue 學 (“learning” or “apprendre” in French) both as notion and as activity. A major part of my work concerns the relation between classical exegesis and moral and political practices. My current research adopts a comparative approach between the Chinese world and the Medieval Christian world of the XIth and XIIth centuries, by including study of texts produced in the context of monastical schools in France.

Research thematics

  • xue 學 as notion, activity and space in premodern textual sources
  • Organization, philosophical and political foundations of learning
  • Classical exegesis
  • Moral practices in Chinese traditions, especially in the Confucian tradition
  • Representations of Antiquity in traditional Chinese literature
  • Theology and monachism in medieval France
