Bhutan, History and Oral Traditions
TBACT Team
This interdisciplinary programme ( history, anthropologie, textuel studies) is the only one in the world which is devoted to Bhutan in an academic institution. It contributes to the knowledge of the history and cultural anthropology of the country and its place in the larger context of the Himalayas.
Publications, projects and conferences in collaboration with international academic institutions are testimonies of its vitality and interest. It was involved with CLCS (College of Language and Culture studies) in the on line documentation of the Bhutan Cultural Atlas; it also participated to the writing of a Dzongkha Manual for foreigners with CLCS and INALCO; it was very active in the preparation of a programme of an anthropology Phd in Bhutan with CLCS and UCLA, USA and the assistance of a grant from the Wenner-Gren Foundation.
The next large project is the digitalization and archiving of the slides collection of Françoise Pommaret (1979- 2010 around 50.000 slides) by the CRCAO in order to constitute a data base available to all researchers.
