Thesis : Voicing the Invisible in Ombwiri: The Production of Multivocality, Libreville, Gabon.
Directed by Grégory Delaplace and Katell Morand
Presentation
After earning a Master’s degree in Ethnomusicology and Dance Anthropology at Nanterre and defending my thesis in June 2022 under the supervision of Katell Morand and Magali De Ruyter—in which I examined new forms of ritual practices aimed at Westerners in Libreville (Gabon)— I am continuing my research in Gabon on the ombwiri ritual as part of my doctoral dissertation under the supervision of Grégory Delaplace and Katell Morand. The aim is to examine how the voice intervenes in the process of mediating with the invisible within this ritual, which is primarily practiced in the Gabonese capital, Libreville. This doctoral thesis builds upon an artistic exploration of the voice that I have been pursuing as a vocalist for many years and which lies at the heart of my research.
