Presentation

My work is essentially that of a historian of the early-modern period specialising in Japan and its religions (popular religions, Christianity, the relationship between state and religion, the social history of religion, etc.). My main historical period is the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. I also devote part of my time to an in-depth study of non-Western historiography (creation and co-direction of the Encyclopaedia of Historiography. Africa, America, Asia). Finally, I have a growing predilection for comparative history (Europe-Japan in the early-modern period).
