Thesis : Theogony and Emergence of an Autonomous Shintō Thought: an Analysis of the Conceptual System of Yoshida Kanetomo
Directed by Matthias Hayek

Presentation

I began a PhD at EPHE in 2022, and am a research student at Keiô University since September 2023 as part of the MEXT research grant.

My research focuses on medieval shintô and, more broadly, on the intellectual landscape of the late Muromachi period. In particular, I am studying yuiitsu shintô, a school of medieval shintô also known as Yoshida shintô. I am researching the relations between this school and the historical context in which it was produced. I also study the way in which specialised knowledge circulated in Japanese high society at the end of the 15th century.

Research thematics

  • Medieval shintô, especially Yoshida shintô (yuiitsu shintô)
  • Japanese medieval religions
  • History of Japanese religions
  • History of thought and religions
