Frédéric Devienne

Engineer - Director of the UFR LCAO Library, Université de Paris

It is from the « zoographic » perspective of a documentary description of animals, particularly in their relationship to human, that I am interested in the representation of animals in ancient China and in East Asia, in particular in iconography, but also in the texts and, more incidentally, in the Chinese characters. The framework of my activity as director of a university research library, specializing in the field of Humanities and Social Sciences in East Asia, also leads me to collect and analyze the various documentary resources, visual and textual, relating to living conditions of domestic animals in East Asia. It is also in this capacity that I have developed several digital humanities projects in connection with CRCAO research programs on plants and animals in East Asia, in particular the CYNICO database (Iconological Cynography in Ancient China ), as well as various textual and bibliographic resources related to the dog.
