Presentation
My research in anthropology focuses on the mechanisms of resilience — understood as adaptation to change —initiated by the ethnic minorities scattered in Northeast China (Heilongjiang Province and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region). By combining long-term ethnographic fieldwork with local written sources, I explore different interconnected topics crucial for understanding how these populations living on the margins adapt their daily lives to a fluctuating political, socio-economic, and religious environment.
My research is organized around the following axes:
- Indigenous relationships to land and environment
- Ritual practices and identity dynamics in connection with Chinese heritage policies
- Life trajectories in the margins of Northeast China
- The challenges and opportunities of urban transition in small and medium-sized cities of Inner Mongolia
Research thematics
- Tungus and Mongol ethnic minorities
- Pastoralism and ecological resilience
- Ritual practices (Buddhism and shamanism)
- Cities of Inner Mongolia (mobility grassland/city, creation of urban microcosms, challenges and opportunities)
- Life trajectories in the margins of China
