Thesis : Sacrifice: comparative (Ancient China and Ancient Rome), anthropological and theoretical approaches
Directed by Nicole Belayche and Marianne Bujard

Presentation

The sacrifice as a ritual activity is capable of representing to a large extent the fact that a large or small population has interacted with supernatural powers posed in a specific historical period even if the practice actual differs according to religious contexts. By diving into historical or ethnographic documents, our essay endeavours to find the relationship of the ritual practice of sacrifice between two ancient civilizations (Ancient China and Ancient Rome) through comparative, anthropological and theoretical approaches in order to manifest the universal, intercultural and interdisciplinary characters of sacrifice.
