Lecture by Carlos Rojas (Professor at Duke University)
Active since the early 1990s, Dung Kai-cheung 董啟章 (1967-) is regarded as one of contemporary Hong Kong’s most influential authors. Throughout his career he has repeatedly engaged with scientific and science fictional topics in his works, and his three most recent novels* have turned more specifically to the topic of artificial intelligence, and to the interface between technology and human consciousness and cognition. This talk will consider this topic not only through a discussion of the novels themselves, but also Dung’s subsequent decision to use machine translation to make one of the novels available in English translation.
