The purpose of this online glossary, initiated in 2006, is to provide a reference tool on agricultural techniques for researchers, translators, and editors of technical publications. The glossary will also serve to highlight the cultural differences between the different geographical areas and to raise the researchers’ and graduate students’ awareness on issues of terminology. It will be exclusively devoted to traditional techniques with the aim of supporting the conservation of rural techniques and knowledge. The Glossary was renamed ‘Traditional Agricultural Techniques’ in response to the increased interest in international media with regard to this particular field.

Calendar :

20/02/2014 : 10 sections of the Glossary were published online.
30/12/2014 : 12 sections, on cereal crops and horticulture, entitled ‘Horticulture and Miscellaneous’ will be published online.
30/12/2016 : the contents of 14 sections on cereal crops, ‘Livestock Farming and Viticulture’ will be published online.

Result :
An online database with around 2500 entries for technical terminology related to agriculture in four languages : French, English, Chinese and Japanese. The entries are classified according to different themes (plant morphology, fields and systems, amendments, seeds etc.). Each section is accompanied by bibliographic references. Particular attention has been paid to the choice of illustrations and photos. The scientific character and addition of illustrations distinguish this glossary from all other similar online endeavours to date.
